Liubomyr Laikun, an Erasmus student of geodesy and geoinformatics in Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), master of geoinformatics in Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine), GIS intern in Alpdest CEE.
KoPlac offers several different positions for interns among which one is related to cartography and GIS. As Alpdest CEE company focused mainly on digital advertising of ski resorts, the primary task for the GIS intern in KoPlac is the creation of content aiming to fill the ski resort database in the Outdooractive web portal – Europe’s largest outdoor platform. It includes gathering the necessary information (number and types of ski slopes and lifts) from the available sources on the Internet and from the official websites of the specific ski resorts and further visualization of the lifts and ski slopes network for each resort using free and open source QGIS software. Another task you can carry out is the mapping of the hiking trails for different regions of Central Europe. If you are passionate about the outdoor activity, this position is perfect since it gives an opportunity to combine the work and hobby. As I like mountain biking, I was able to discover different places of South Moravian Region with my bike, recording GPS tracks and creating the content for the Outdooractive web portal.
